Back in the 1920's and 30's where the Scotia Bank was Peck's feed store. They sold bags of chicken feed to local farmers. My father remembers sitting on the bags of feed at the back of the store. They lived above the store. In 1939 they left the store and went on to farm in the Stouffville area.

I believe the original building pictured above was probably the only “modern” building in Mt Dennis (as in the architectural period of modernism). It was indeed a beautiful building, and so bright inside which is always lovely for employees. I can’t think of another building that fits that definition with perhaps the exception of the original York Township building, but it’s technically not in Mt Dennis.

I opened a bank account in the fall of 1961.. then took all the money out, under $30 to go and see Runnymede's Sr. Basketball team play in the Golden Ball, in Kingston - spring of 1962...took the train and had a blast.

Across Hollis there was the Bank of Nova Scotia, a gray stone building, set back from Weston Road, it was nicely done with a landscaped garden consisting of hedges and planted geraniums with red blooms…From there, in front of the bank property you could scan all four directions.
