Mount Dennis radio | Carson’s Variety | Demolished

Dave Fraser
Before Carson’s the original builder/owner was my dad(Mount Dennis Radio), we lived behind the store and were actually there before the bowling alley complex was built—I also worked at setting pins and at the movie show There was a bakery next to us operated by Gordon (whose last name I can’t remember) and his mother.

I remember Joe Fraser. I bought many records in that store.

Carson's - I couldn't remember the name. I do remember when I'd go in, he'd often ask to see my money (presuming I might otherwise shoplift, I guess). I used to go up there for my parents and purchase "large Peter Stuyvesant king size" cigarettes for .54 cents! And yes he'd sell 'em to us 7 year olds. He was a nice guy - we tested our tv tubes there all the time.
Mike Harrison
The Carsons lived for some years in the former Henley house on Gilmour Crescent overlooking the valley.

My Favourite Lola was grape 🍇 purchased at Carson variety at the Corner of Weston rd & Bartonville Ave in the heart of my Dennis Ontario Canada doors from the Mt. Dennis theatre cheers.

There was a Carson’s Variety as well, in the late 1960’s into 1970’s. It probably closed around 79/80 but I’m not sure.  Behind Carson’s variety was an apartment and then a fairly decent yard at the back and the wall of the bowling alley ran the length of the yard. I played in that yard a number of times. Carsons variety was a single story building and it has been torn down, it’s a vacant lot right now.

Mr and Mrs Carson have long passed :(( They had three children, Bill, Lorna and Adrian. Lorna and I became best friends in 1968 when I came to Canada from England and are still friends to this day!
